About me

Hi there,

My name is Murray and welcome to The Outdoor Den. I’m an outdoors enthusiast with a passion for health and fitness…have travelled the world, love to hike and have hiked on many of the great trails of the world. I have recently retired from a 20-year multisport career, where I started out with events like the Coast to Coast and then moved onto Triathlon and Duathlon where I represented New Zealand at 8 World Championships. Years of competitive racing has taught me the secrets to a healthy lifestyle. Whether you’re an elite athlete or someone wanting to lose a few extra pounds or just wanting to get in shape the basic principles are the same for everyone.

My mission is to help and inspire people to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of our lovely country and that of the rest of the world. Keeping fit and active through hiking and travelling is a great way to enhance one’s well-being.

  1. Hi Murray, for the routeburn walk from Glenorchy, do you think it is necessary to have a guided tour or would it be sufficient to hire a car in Queenstown and do the track myself?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Jeffrey, thanks for your message. Were you meaning The Routeburn Falls day walk? If so yes hiring a car would be a good idea or Infotrack provide a good shuttle service if you were looking for other alternatives. The walk is easy enough to do yourself as long as you take the right gear and have a good level of fitness. Its definitely a beautiful walk.

      Murray
